Dunlop Qualifiers?
« on: September 08, 2008, 11:45:52 PM »
I know some other tires were suggested for my SV1000s, but on the SV site someone has offered a set of brand new Dunlop Qualifiers for $175.   :-\

So, I was wondering if any of you have had experience with these?  How do they perform? How long do they last?  (I know some reviews seem to suggest that they don't last that long...)

Since just a good rear tire in most of the brands goes for $140 or more, I'm tempted...  ;)

I saw Steve's post over there but I think they've been sold already.  It would've been worth it even though they don't last that long, simply because of the price (oh well).   :(

In any case I ran 3 consecutive sets of them.  They are really good canyon tires and decent track day tires, but probably mediocre for commuting because they'll wear out faster than the tires that Bill recommended.  One thing I noticed (at least for me) is that somewhere around the 2500 mile mark they started to harden up and performance would degrade noticeably in the turns.  Again that's probably not an issue for commuting, but since all I do is canyons and tracks, I usually tossed them around 3000 miles even though there was some decent tread left.

Ha, I didn't bother to look that you were the one who posted over there!   ;)  It's still a great price even though they won't last as long.  Youll get your $/mile out of them for sure.

I figured you knew something I didn't - so I was kindof surprised when I heard from Steve that they were still available!  ;D

I debated about it, but decided to give them a try.  For that price I figured I wasn't losing too bad if they don't last too long...

Now I've just got to find a cheap place to get them put on.  :-\  Maybe Parts 411 or Robert (raceinteach)...

Any other suggestions?  (I want to just take in the bike and have them done.  I'm afraid I'll mess something up if I start taking wheels off!  ;))

Call Johnny at Mountain Motorsports - he may have a decent price. If you take the wheels off yourself, use Cycle Rider on Holt in Montclair - good outfit.

Got em installed at Parts 411 in San Dimas - they charge $35 per tire on the bike ($70 total).  I checked with Mtn Motorsports, but they wanted $120 total.

If you guys haven't been to Parts 411, you might want to check them out sometime.  Still a small place, but larger than their old place (they've moved to a different place in the same complex) and they had some good deals on tires in the store - better than their online prices I believe.  Qualifiers, Pilot Powers, BT016 and a few others up front were on sale...

Well, I'm back on the road!

I won't be doing any canyons until October.  Hopefully, you'll come out with your new Qualifiers for the next ACH ride?

Running errands this weekend.  Superbike school the weekend after.  Trackday the weekend after that.  Oh man, I might even skip the weekend after that to get new tires after the trackday.  :(

How quick did they get the tire mounted at Parts411?  I need to get a rear tire mounted/balanced.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

They said about an hour for both tires...  I ran errands for a couple hours, so I don't know exactly, but it was ready when I returned.  Appointments don't seem to be necessary either (I didn't have one, but I did call first to make sure they weren't too busy.)
