Sea Foam!  You can get it at Auto Zone, Kragen, Pep Boys, etc. - it's in the "fuel additive" section - as for it, I think it comes in a white can.  1/2 can per full tank of fuel, it will probably have a noticeable affect on smoothing your idle.

I also second the chain cleaning and lube, and oil/filter change.  Really easy stuff once you learn, and those two things alone will go a long way toward keeping the bike in decent running condition, all other things being equal.

If the bike has the original tires on it, you may ask someone else who has some riding experience to take a look at them, just to see if they are super-hard (tire rubber dries out over time, regardless of usage/wear).

Welcome aboard!  Ride safe!  Have you taken the MSF class or anything?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the input. I am actually taking the MSF class this weekend. Looking forward to it and learning a lot. Can I hijack my own thread and ask for recommendations on where to get gear?

No self hijacking!  haha.  What pieces do you need?

First things first get yourself to a local store to try stuff on and get an idea for the right sizes.  That way you'll have the option to order online if the store prices are too high.

The only place I can think of in the valley with a good selection for you to try stuff on is Cycle Gear in Canoga Park.  Otherwise you'll need to drive to Bert's (West Covina) which has a huge selection, or Del Amo Motorsports in the south bay (decent selection).

As for online stores, you can see a good selection of stuff here:
www.motorcyclesuperstore.com
www.newenough.com
www.motosport.com
www.kneedraggers.com (not good prices but lots to look at)

I'm sure others will have suggestions too.

Almost forgot... if you need a helmet:

www.helmetharbor.com

I think they require you to register now, but they have the best prices hands down.  Call them on the phone if you order because you'll get a lower price than what's posted on the web site, they don't charge sales tax (they're in AZ) and they have free shipping on just about every helmet.  They have other gear too.

I'd add:
http://www.motonekoparts.com/

They have some really good deals on high end stuff.

Depending on your size, there's a good chance I have gear that I'm not using anymore.  Let me know your size and what you need and I'll see if I have something in your size.  I have things ranging from size small to XL.  Man, I sound like a gear dealer.

Ray:  I still have those boots whenever you want them.
