Dunlop Q2 tires
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:09:57 AM »
So I ordered a set of the new Dunlop Q2s (the new Qualifier series).  And of course, I am supposed to ride over to Anaheim (Apex Moto) to have them installed tomorrow, when it's supposed to be raining.  :(

I took the bike out on a short ride last weekend, wear stripe on the rear tire and all.  It was great to get out on the moto again ... between my anxiety over riding with the wear stripe showing (the Apex guy said you ca get another thousand miles out of the tire after you first see it ... sounds like pushing it to me), and all the rain we had in January, it had been a whole month since I'd ridden.

Will provide feedback on the new Q2s once I get them installed and broken in.  We need to plan another Cerro Noroeste ride, or possibly Ortega?

Cerro's surrounding areas might have crappy conditions for a little while, but yeah I need to get out there and break in my suit!  Maybe in a couple of weeks if it stops raining we can try to plan something on a decent road.

God, yes.  If i don't go on a ride somewhere besides Malibu, I gonna die!

OTOH, most of the country would kill to be us.

So, never mind.  But: i'm in!

I read Ortega washed out today.   :-[

Got the tires installed and drove in circles for a while.  It didn't rain at all today, here at least.

I'm sure you saw that ACH got washed out in a couple of places too.   :'(  Closed until at least March.

I have a Q2 rear and a Q1 front on the SV. I can say they are good in the rain, rode in a downpour yesterday and had no problems.

The SV though was not so happy. Typical of those bikes, the front cylinder spark plug gets wet and the bikes starts misfiring. Of course this has to happen while I'm along side a CHP car...

Jim, is it the plug wire that gets wet?  Surely no water is getting into the cylinder right?

Yeah, plug wire. If you ride in the rain a lot you have to fit an extended fender.
