What should I get, exhaust or luggage or ???
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:21:02 PM »
I have decided to treat my streetbike to a little bit o' farkle.

I am considering:

- a Givi topcase

or

- Scorpion exhaust (with the new Two Bros. looking conical tips)

They will end up costing about the same.  I'd probably get more cool factor out of the cans, but the functionality that the topcase would bring would probably see me using the bike for more stuff.  Then again, the topcase bracket is a little unsightly for sure ... I'd go with the SW Motec mount, it's much lower profile than the Givi brand one.

In other news, I still need to fix, rebuild or replace the shock on my track bike.  I'd love to get a slip on onto that bad boy too.  :)

Thoughts or advice?

No advice, and only one thought, Mark. And it's purely a personal and subjective thought. I think the hard topcases are horrible looking. To me, they just destroy the looks of a bike (and if you've ever noticed my dirty bikes, I'm not big on details :D). I probably do more touring than the average SCLR member, and even though they're VERY functional, I won't have one. I just use a removeable soft tailbag.

Again, just a very personal observation and opinion.

Haha nice Bill.  ;)  There must be tons of good soft tailbags to choose from.  Does Axio have anything cool?

As for exhaust, I'd put it on the track bike first so you can really make that 636 growl.  But I think the shock is the better money spent.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the top cases either. I would either go with the exhaust or work on getting the track bike shock sorted out.

Don't know about Axio, Ray. I've had Eclipse, Tourmaster, Cortech and RKA. The absolute best I've used is RKA. Expensive but top quality. Good folks to work with also.

I've been trying to find a cheap exhaust for the 636.  The shock is probably more important but it would be cool to have a loud track bike.   >:D

I should just remove the shock and send it to Racetech.  Soon I'll be able to because I'll have a new garage space to work in!  (Carla's mom's).

PS - I agree about the look of the top case.  It totally changes the lines and looks, but the functionality is almost worth it.  This comes from my trip to Europe where SO MANY people have topcases on EVERYTHING - bikes and scooters alike.

If I get a scoot I'll probably get a topcase for it.  Makes you a larger profile for drivers anyway.
