Good Article on Buell's Demise
« on: April 07, 2010, 04:23:58 PM »
I read the article in Cycle World about the end of Buell.  It's actually a good read because Steve Anderson, as a former employee and long time acquaintance of Erik Buell, obviously had a lot of inside information.  To be blunt I never liked Buell's designs, their relationship with HD (especially in the engine department) nor their horribly outdated 80s logo, but the article sheds a lot of light on why things were the way they were and how it went down.  Erik should never have signed that contract with HD way back when, but then who knows if he would've found other funding.  I have an even lower opinion of HD now after reading this, which I didn't think was possible.

Finally read that today, it was a good article.

Its interesting to see how little money was put into Buell and how Harley never seemed to take sport bikes seriously. They viewed Buell as a starter brand, you would grow tired of it and move up to the American Dream- a Big Twin!
