Patching a (practically new) rear tire - si o no?
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:51:51 AM »
I'm pretty sure I've put this question to this group before, beingas this is my second flat tire on my FZ6 in 3 years.

This time, I have what appears to be a small piece of metal or a small nail right in the middle of the tread on the rear tire.  I have maybe 700 miles on these tires.

Should I just find a tire shop to  pull the tire off the wheel for me? I know they won't patch it for me for liability reasons.  It's preferable to do an inside patch as opposed to a through the tire mushroom plug, right?

Oy, maybe I will end up with another new tire again.  Dammit.

Best of both worlds, plug it and patch it. I know Mototechnica on the eastside used to patch from the inside.

I need the sunshine in the morning, I'm heading for the open road.

Plug-Patch from the inside. I've had three done this way over the years and used them until they wore out. However, I always found a shop that would do it properly.

If I had a flat and the tire was over about 50% gone, I'd just get a new one.

Thanks guys!  It's being repaired at M & C in Long Beach ... picking it up in a bit.

So far so good - I've ridden into work maybe three or four times since patching.  No drop in psi so far.
