Just dropping in to say hello. I stumbled into this forum and all of you riders quite by accident.

It's a plesant and refreshing surprize to see a group of people who enjoy riding and want to ride responsibly. Sounds like I may have finally found my kind of crowd. Cool.

People who love leaning through the twisties but NOT dragging knees? People who think stunting is cool in empty parking lots away from traffic and never on city streets? That's the attitude I've hoped to find for ages. "Fun yet responsible" sounds great.

Welcome!

Yeah, here to prove yourself you just need to be nice and ride within your limits.  Not a bad scam!   LOL

Hope to see you on some rides!

Hi,

My name is Christian. I have been riding for a whole one week. I bought a 98 GS500 last week and have been riding around the parking lot at the school across the street.
I am taking the MSF course the first week of Febuary, Until then i have purchased More proficient motorcycling and am practicing in the school lot and riding around the block
and of course pracatcing my wheelies and stoppies but who doesn't =)

My bike is certainly not going to win any beauty contests but it runs great an i enjoy every second i get to spend on it.

Hey Christian, welcome aboard.   ;D

I really like your approach.  Absolutely nothing wrong with a small, used bike to learn on.  I started on a used naked bike, and I'm glad I did because I dropped it twice and all I had to replace was the bar-end and brake handle (as opposed to the time when I dropped my R6 before I installed frame sliders and paid $500+ for parts).  Also a used bike doesn't depreciate much so as long as it's running well you'll lose very little if you sell it.  Great choice too.  Very forgiving.  JC here started on one of those.

That's all that matters.   ;D

Definitely check out the first David Hough book Proficient Motorcycling if you don't have it already and have fun in your MSF class.  Are you in the area?  If so, you're welcome to come out on group rides when you feel comfortable, and many people here are willing to come out to where you are (if you're close enough) and coach a little if you're up for it.

Cheers,

Ray

Welcome.  It sounds like you're taking a great approach to learning how to ride (except the wheelies and stoppies of course ).  That's a great bike all around.  Have you purchased gear yet?  Have fun and ride safe.

Yeah I have the Scorpion EXO 400 helmet, Fildsheer jacket and gloves. I don't have riding pants or boots yet but those will be my next purchases

Welcome to the fold, DBegginer!

It looks like you're taking the necessary time to learn to be a good rider.  That's always good to see.

Check out the book that Ray recommended.  It's a great way to get the basics down.

Be safe,

Hawkster

What's up, I'm Joey.  I'm 25, I live in Torrance, and I ride a little Ninja 250.  I've been riding since Sept 05, and LOVE Palos Verdes Drive East.

Also, I love video taping my rides and putting them on my website www.joeyvankuiken.com (even though most people think they're boring, lol)

i checked out some of your vids and they are very interesting. im a newbie so i didn't find it boring. ;D

in one of your vid on the twisties, i saw you take a sharp U turn. how fast were you going and how much lean did you do?

you ride pretty fast. i saw in one of the descriptions of your vid that you got pulled over... doing 60 in a 35 zone is already considered reckless. you got lucky you got off w/ just a warning.  :)

anyway, welcome! im new here myself.
