Cerro Noroeste Pics
« on: May 30, 2006, 01:08:31 AM »
My buddy Louie and I snuck up to Cerro Noroeste on Saturday, but taking a different route:

San Francisquito Cyn north > Elizabeth Lake Road west (becomes a few different roads) > west to 5 Freeway > Frazier Park > Cerro Noroeste

First of all it was f'n freezing up there that day, not to mention it was so windy in Gorman we almost got blown off the road.  In any case I finally got a few decent pics of Cerro Noroeste for those of you who haven't been there yet.  Louie also thinks it's the best motorcycle road he's been on yet.

Picture notes:
1.  I ordered a new camera which is coming tomorrow.  My ancient 2 megapixel camera seems to take worse and worse pictures every time I use it.
2.  If you look closely at the bottom right corner of the 2nd pic, you can see the road snaking off in the distance.
3.  The last pic is actually on Lockwood Valley road, a nearby cool road that is picturesque and twisty.

Cool pics.  Gorman's pretty far up north, isn't it?  Must've been a pretty heavy riding day.

Yeah Gorman is probably 30 miles or so north of Magic Mountain.  It's up there.  That's the cool thing about that area though; there's a few different ways to get there and they're all fun.  Unless you take all freeways.

now that looks nice.

How many miles/how much time?
I need the sunshine in the morning, I'm heading for the open road.

The Noroeste cannot be measured in space, nor time.  The Noroeste simply is.   See the Noroeste, be one with the Noroeste, BECOME THE NOROESTE!

Here's the route as it was from my place; we took the scenic route up there.  It was 303 miles start to finish.  Met in Valencia, left there around 10:00 AM, got back home around 6:30 PM.  The route is counter-clockwise on this map.

Seriously though April, you will be blown away by Cerro Noroeste and hwy 33 is as fun or probably more fun than ACH or AFH.

Since the ascent/descent is so gradual, it was just as fun both ways.  There's a gas station less than 1 mile east of the Lockwood / Cuddy Valley junction, so you can gas up there and go back and forth all day if you really wanted to.  ;D
