I have an advice that might make your next track day more enjoyable.  Instead of concentrating on going "fast" and using your "tires", concentrate on being "smooth".  You may find your experience to be better and realize that you end up going faster and use more of your tires as a result of concentrating on "smoothness".

You are.  Much more and you run out of traction.  Running out of tire is a curse, not a sign of improvement.  You may have even improved something else, maybe body positioning, so that you're not using all your tire.

I wish I had a quote of this somewhere on paper.... Jeff (Hawkster) said it to me at SOW I think... something along the lines of "People look out on a track and see great riders and their speed, but what they don't see is the hundreds of hours of practice and work that it took to get that fast"  (Sorry for butchering your quote Jeff).  The point is,  motorcycle riding skill isn't a race, until you're actually in a literal race.

i know it's not "THE" benchmark... but it tells a lot about speed and control of the rider.

and i don't hangout on squid websites.

well anyway... i believe i'll get over this. just like i have stopped obsessing over trying to drag knee. like hawkster said, i should just keep on practicing.

Actually, you can have two riders, one with horrible body position who is pushing the bike below them, and the other with great body position who is also hanging off to reduce the lean.  The second rider can have MUCH greater speed and control than the first rider, and the two will have the same kind of tire wear in terms of how close they are getting to the edge.  The first rider can actually go closer to the tire's edge while still going much much slower and have less control.
